As a young boy, I always envisioned myself donning a stethoscope and treating patients when I got older. After gaining admission to and completing my first year of Medical School in my home country of Sri Lanka, due to the political turmoil in the country I not only had to flee the country but had to change my career path. While devastating at first, I learned that I could use these circumstances as an opportunity to express my passion & love for helping others in a different way.
After coming to Canada, I pursued my Certification in Public Accounting (accredited in the USA and Canada), and finished my master’s in finance & Corporate Tax. I started my career as an accountant and worked my way up to holding various senior finance roles including Director of Finance, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in large global organizations.
I also have a deep founded passion for music and alongside my professional career, I founded a musical band (Mega Tuners) with the intention to promote the hidden talents and culture of the South Asian community here in Toronto. Being a founder, band leader and a keyboard player I was faced with lots of challenges to remain competitive and to deliver consistent quality musical performances to please audiences, promoters and band members. It provided me with plentiful opportunities to give back to the community (fundraisers, building schools back home in Sri Lanka, and supporting various charitable causes) to make a positive impact for needy people.
When the first stay-at-home order was announced in spring 2020, and I was confined to my home, I used my newfound extra time to build my business from zero recruits to having over 65 recruits and build 50 000 cash flow within a 9-month period. People sometimes ask me how I fit Primerica in with my professional career and music. I always tell them when you truly love what you do, nothing feels like work, especially when you’re able to help other families, providing them with the knowledge, skills, and opportunities to take control of their personal financial situation and create wealth. By incorporating my experiences from my professional career and music, I’ve been able to do just that.
Despite all the stress associated with the ongoing pandemic, Primerica has given me the freedom of time, money, and fulfillment that I simply cannot express in words. There is nothing as gratifying as being able to be such a huge proponent of change in the lives of others, and I can confidently say that Primerica has transformed me into a better person.
I’m very grateful to my brother Chelvan Mahesan who introduced me to Primerica. I would like to thank my RVP(K. Amalakuhan), my team, Bobby & Candy and the Legacy Builders for their continued support and leadership. I look forward to continuing to enhance my own financial knowledge and sharing it with and learning from my team members and clients.
Last but not least, I’d like to thank my wife Gowri, my three wonderful kids (Prassana, Trilo and Shrika), and my parents for their love and support.
